Dive into discovery! This fun and fascinating app will guide your observations of Hawaii’s ocean animals from giant whales to tiny corals: Fish, Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Invertebrates -- every animal you are likely to encounter! With this app you will be able to identify what you see in nature and to find out about amazing animals to look for. You can learn and search the names of the critters in three languages: English, Hawaiian and scientific.

Each critter has a unique story written by our biologists, reef guides and mermaids. These descriptions will entertain and inform you of its habits, habitats and history in Hawaiian culture. Additionally, you will find information on how you can safely visit the reef and be a protector of the sea.

What are those beautiful yellow fish? Where do I look for sea stars? I wonder, what is that little bird hunting for? What is that long, spotted animal winding its way around the coral? What is the fish that is swimming along with the sea turtle?

It’s easy to solve the mystery of your discoveries by using the app filters: Shape, Color, Habitat, Pattern, Family or Phylum, and even Beak Size. And of course, the beautiful Photos! The clues you observe will increase your knowledge and connection with Hawaii’s awesome animal life.

The Hawaii Sealife App’s three sections helps you EXPLORE, LEARN AND DISCOVER. You can search or scroll through the critter library in the Explore section. The Learn section is like a blog where you can find out about safety, equipment, sunscreen, and interesting animal, environmental and cultural information. In the Discover section you can play search games and keep a journal, logging your own discoveries.

Whether you are a first-time visitor or avid explorer of Hawaiian reefs and near shore habitats, Hawaii Sealife will enhance your snorkeling adventures and shoreline wandering.

Created by Reef Guardians Hawaii crew: Robin Mazor, Terry Lilley, and Jessica Rickard. Reef Guardians runs Reef Camp educational science, culture and arts snorkel programs on the island of Kauai. Their online Reef Camp Sea School will be launching soon.
